Scrap, bought and sold by weight

A scrap yard trades in weights, not units, and the margin lives in the difference between what a load weighed coming in and what it weighed going out. ClubManager records the weighment against the transaction.

Weight is the unit

Parties on both sides

Suppliers bringing scrap in and buyers taking it out are both recorded as parties with their own history, so what you owe and what you are owed are visible rather than remembered.

Weighments are opt-in, because most venues are not a yard

Weighments are a tab you switch on rather than one everybody carries, which is why the rest of the product does not ask a cafe about weighbridge slips. A yard that wants none of the GST reporting can switch that off in the same way — the parts of stock control you do not run are not on your screen.

Buying in and selling on

A purchase records the supplier, the grade, the weight and what you paid; a sale records the buyer and what you got. Stock is valued on what you actually paid for it, so the margin on a grade is the difference between two recorded numbers rather than an estimate at the end of the month.

Payments post against a purchase or a sale as their own rows, so a part payment is a record rather than an adjustment.
